Rivers Cuomo has made a fan's dream come true by performing a duet of Weezer's "Buddy Holly" with them on TikTok.
Starting in 2020, a TikTok user by the name of Evan has been playing a riff from Weezer's "Buddy Holly" every day. The goal was originally to amass 1 million followers, but eventually morphed into trying to get Cuomo's attention so that they could do a TikTok duet.
On Monday — day 990 — Cuomo finally accepted Evan's challenge. He posted his own TikTok of him jamming the riff alongside Evan's latest video, along with the caption, "My people will reach out to your people."
Perhaps we'll see Evan onstage with Weezer during their just-announced Indie Rock Roadtrip tour, which kicks off in June.
Evan's story is a fitting sequel to when a long-running fan campaign on Twitter finally convinced Weezer to cover Toto's "Africa" in 2018. The viral cover became Weezer's biggest hit in a decade.
