Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has dismissed the idea of him joining Linkin Park in place of the late Chester Bennington.
The notion was posed to Whibley during an interview on Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta's The Jasta Show podcast, who brought up when Mike Shinoda joined Sum 41 for a cover of LP's "Faint" in 2018. Jasta told Whibley he was "really impressed" with his vocals during the performance, and asked if he'd be interested in taking up the mic in Linkin Park should the band ever reform.
"I think that's an impossible task," Whibley responded while thanking Jasta for the compliment. "I think those are impossible shoes to fill. I don't know if [Linkin Park is] ever gonna do anything. I have no idea what that's gonna look like, or who that could be."
Jasta then asked whether Whibley would ever consider joining Linkin Park should the opportunity arise, and Whibley replied, "That is such a non-possibility that it's too weird to even, like, sort of joke-think about it."
"I don't know how someone could fill those shoes," he added "I think it would be tough."
In addition to the "Faint" cover with Shinoda, Whibley also performed at the 2017 Bennington memorial concert, which was held a few months after Chester died earlier that year.
Sum 41, meanwhile, is prepping a new, double album, titled Heaven and Hell. Later this month, they'll launch the Blame Canada tour with Simple Plan.
