For Snoop Dogg, the show must go on, even after the death of one of his parents.
The "Drop It Like It's Hot" rapper is mourning the passing of his mother, Beverly Tate, who died Sunday. However, instead of cancelling his scheduled concert in Boston Sunday night, Snoop performed, and dedicated a special song to his mom.
The 50-year-old rapper told the crowd at the Big Live Night venue, “In the spirit of the people of Boston, I wanted to come out here and represent for y’all."
“Before we leave, we’re going to play this record for my mom," said Snoop, and then played Ben E. King's 1961 hit, "Stand by Be." As he asked the crowd to throw two fingers in the air for peace signs, the audience sang along with the classic song.
Promoter Randy Greenstein told Page Six that Snoop never attempted to cancel and said his mom “would’ve wanted him to do the show.”
“He was very emotional after the show,” Greenstein added. “He thanked our team, said he needed this show. He needed the love from the audience. It meant a lot to him.”
During the song, the co-host of Snoop and Martha's Very Tasty Halloween TV special told the crowd, “I needed this.” He ended the show telling the audience, “I f***ing love y’all for getting my spirit right tonight. Peace, love and soul.”
As previously reported, Beverly Tate died Sunday at the age of 70. "Mama thank u for having me," Snoop commented then, with an Instagram photo of the two of them. He added, “Thank u god for giving me an angel for a mother.”
Numerous stars, including Cardi B, Dwayne Johnson, Taraji P. Henson, LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes, sent prayers to the iconic rapper.
