It's been a rough few weeks for the hip hop community with the recent deaths of rappers DMX, Black Rob and Shock G.
For Snoop Dogg, who shared the Verzuz stage with DMX last July, the loss of his close friend hit extra hard. During an interview promoting his partnership with BIC EZ Reach Lighters, Snoop tells ABC Audio that he tries to see the silver lining when he loses someone close to him.
"I look at the person that God has [taken] back home and...the work that they've done and I say to myself, 'Wow, I want to do as much work as they've done,'" he says. "And I want to highlight their work...whether it was music, concerts, conversations, information, [or] testimonies."
Snoop says that the aforementioned artists "left some... jewels" that he will "always hold on to." Of course, the accomplished rapper hopes to do the same.
"I'm just trying to... leave a lot of jewels when my day comes to go be with the Father," he shares. "So that way people can always smile and remember how good Snoop was to them when he was here."
His legacy aside, Snoop also opened up about spending time with DMX in studio. He says after their Verzuz battle, X stayed in California and completed his forthcoming album.
"He did his album in a room right next door to mines [and] was there every day," Snoop reveals, adding that he also cooked for X, Swizz Beatz, and friends during their stay.
"So it was a love fest... nothing but love," he says. "The battle ended up becoming a brotherhood, friendship, and a love fest. That's a treasured moment that we got. And [our record together] was recorded at my spot. And I'm going to live with that forever."
