Reading & Leeds "saddened" following Måneskin VMA performance announcement

Last week, Måneskin announced that they were dropping off the lineup for the U.K.'s 2022 Reading & Leeds festivals due to unspecified "unforeseen scheduling conflicts." Now, it would appear that the mystery has been solved.

On Monday, it was announced that Måneskin will be performing at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on August 28, which overlaps with Reading & Leeds dates: August 26-28.

Reading & Leeds organizers have issued a statement regarding Måneskin's cancellation, as well as that of rapper Jack Harlow, who is also performing on the VMAs after being on the original R&L lineup.

"We are saddened to hear that Jack Harlow and Måneskin have decided to perform at an award show the same weekend they were confirmed to play Reading & Leeds," the statement reads.

Organizers add that they're currently "working on some exciting replacements."

Reading & Leeds already needed to replace headliner Rage Against the Machine after the reunited band canceled their U.K. and European tour dates due to frontman Zack de la Rocha suffering from what's reportedly a torn Achilles tendon. The 1975 has since joined the bill.

Other artists on the Reading & Leeds lineup include Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me the Horizon, Wolf Alice, Glass Animals, Halsey, Bastille and All Time Low.
