New Found Glory has shared a new video called "Walk Through Fire" reflecting on guitarist Chad Gilbert's battle with cancer.
In December 2021, Gilbert revealed that he'd been diagnosed with a rare tumor called pheochromocytoma, which left him "unresponsive in bed" and "minutes from death." After being rushed to the hospital, Gilbert underwent surgery to remove the cancer. The tumor returned in August of this year, which required another surgery.
In "Walk Through Fire," which is streaming now on YouTube, Gilbert and his bandmates reflect on how they first found out about the cancer, what life's been like since and how the ordeal has affected their upcoming album, Make the Most of It.
"I didn't want this to be the 'cancer record' originally," Gilbert says. "But when we went on tour, and people started hearing the story and connecting to it, I gave up on trying to control the narrative."
"Not all bands are dealt these cards, but we were," he continues. "Let's take these songs and help the disease get awareness and raise money for a cause that's working on education and research for my rare cancer."
Proceeds from Make the Most of It will be donated to the pheochromocytoma advocacy organization The Pheo Para Alliance. The album will be released January 20.
