When the Cincinnati Bengals advanced to the Super Bowl on Sunday with their 27-24 overtime win over the heavily favored Kansas City Chiefs, Kid Cudi discovered that he helped to inspire the upset.
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who led an amazing comeback after his team trailed 21-3 to the defending AFC conference champions, revealed that the "Day 'n' Nite" rapper's music pumps him up to play.
“I listen to strictly Kid Cudi pregame. ‘New York City Rage Fest,’ ‘Soundtrack 2 My Life,’ ‘ Up Up & Away.’ All that good stuff from old Cudi,” the star quarterback said following the Bengals' victory.
Led by Burrow, Cincinnati is now going to the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years. Cudi, who is from Ohio, is ecstatic to see his home state represented in the big game.
“Man this has to be the illest s*** ever,” the two-time Grammy winner tweeted. He praised the 25-year-old QB, writing, “Beautiful f****n game today brother!!”
The Bengals won the game Sunday on Cudi's 38th birthday, prompting Kid to tweet, “Best bday gift ever to be honest."
One fan added, "Joe Burrow going to the Super Bowl on Kid Cudi's birthday is f****** beautiful to see."
As the birthday boy anticipates the Bengals' Super Bowl game on February 13 against the Los Angeles Rams, he's also hoping for an Academy Award nomination. Cudi has two tracks on the Oscar short list for Original Song: "Just Look Up" with Ariana Grande from the film Don't Look Up, and "Guns Go Bang" with Jay-Z, from The Harder They Fall.
