Halestorm felt "triumphant" roaring "Back from the Dead" with latest number-one hit

When Halestorm came roaring "Back from the Dead" last year, they also roared back to the top of the Billboard charts.

The lead single and title track off the band's upcoming new album premiered last year as Halestorm's first new music since the COVID-19 pandemic began. It soon hit number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, giving Lzzy Hale and company their fifth leader on the ranking.

Given that "Back from the Dead" came amid such an uncertain time for the band and the music industry as a whole, going to number one was especially meaningful for the Halestorm members.

"We're not the only ones that have gone through this, but it's, like, the longest we've ever been without a show, the longest we've ever been without releasing music, the longest we've ever been without hanging out with everybody in our band," Hale tells ABC Audio.

Seeing that success out of the gate, Hale shares, felt "very triumphant."

"Ironically, 'Back from the Dead' is a song of surviving through it," Hale says. "It just felt like, officially, we could put the stamp on, 'Alright, we did it guys. We're here, we're still alive, we're still kicking, we're still making music, and we have a number-one, woo!'"

And even if they had hit number one four times before, guitarist Joe Hottinger confirms that it "never gets old."

"It's a version of validation, I guess," Hottinger says. "It's nice to be heard and to know that it's out there."

Back from the Dead the album arrives May 6. It also includes the single "The Steeple."
