Ghost frontman Tobias Forge has put together a Metallica-inspired playlist for Apple Music.
The 30-track set includes two Metallica songs -- "Ride the Lightning" and the Master of Puppets cut "The Thing That Should Not Be" -- as well as selections by Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Twisted Sister, Slayer, and even The Smiths.
"This is one of Metallica's darker songs, almost more in line with death metal," Forge says of "The Thing That Should Not Be." "Definitely not the norm if you listen to the catalog. It's slightly different in tonality, which makes it stand out and makes it super heavy and evil. Very Lovecraftian lyrics. This song has been a huge inspiration of mine for over 30 years."
Along with Forge, Apple Music has also unveiled Metallica-inspired playlists curated by Juanes and Rodrigo y Gabriela. All three acts will appear on The Metallica Blacklist, an upcoming all-star tribute album celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Black Album. The 53-track compilation is due out September 10.
