Tool fans are known as a dedicated bunch, but one fan in particular may have them all beat.
As reported by Science.org, a man with ALS used a brain implant to spell out a request to hear a Tool album.
The 36-year-old patient had become completely paralyzed by the neurodegenerative disease, which takes away a person's ability to control the muscles needed to speak, eat and breathe. In 2018, when he could still use his eyes to communicate, the unidentified man agreed to have a procedure to install the cutting-edge brain implant, which would theoretically allow him to select letters and compose sentences.
Through many months of effort, the man was able to use the device to spell out sentences with a rate of about once character per minute. Among those sentences was "I would like to listen to the album by Tool loud."
We can only hope that he was able to hear Tool's long-awaited new album Fear Inoculum, which finally dropped in 2019 after a 13-year wait.
