Miami rapper Brianna Perry has come a long way since her early years under Poe Boy Music Group.
She tells ABC Audio her rise to fame came in the early 2000s during the peak of fellow Miami hip-hop artists like Trina, Trick Daddy, DJ Khaled, and more.
"I was literally a baby the first time I stepped in the booth and the first time I stepped in the game. To be around such heavy-hitters and people, who are so passionate about what they do and just dominate at what they do," Perry says. "To be able to watch that, have a front-row seat of that, it's like it made me have such high standards for myself, and it set the bar."
"Every time I'm writing a rap, whether I'm writing a song, or I'm writing a freestyle, or anything I'm doing, I always want to go hard and put up my best foot forward because back home in Dade County, that's all I seen the heavy-hitters around me do," she continues. "I don't think I would be the artist I am today if I didn't have that background from Miami['s] hip-hop wave."
After signing with Poe Music Group, Perry made her debut on Trina's 2002 single, "Kandi," under her former stage name, Lil Brianna. The feature led to a deal with Missy Elliott's record label, The Goldmind, Inc., which ended in 2006, and another deal with Atlantic Records, which ended in 2014.
These days, Perry is still affiliated with Poe Music Group and preparing to release her new album, Boss B**** Boulevard, on May 28th.
