We almost lived in a world were Ozzy Osbourne sang the line "You've got your big cheese." Or is it "big G's"?
As Rivers Cuomo tells Guitar World, he originally offered the Weezer song "Hash Pipe" to the Prince of Darkness.
"Once, I think it was in 2000, [Ozzy] asked if I had any songs for him, and I just happened to have written 'Hash Pipe,'" Cuomo recalls. "I sent it to him, but he didn’t end up using it. In another reality, it might be interesting to hear him singing that song."
Instead, Cuomo and Weezer ended up recording the riff-heavy, lyrically-counfounding tune for their 2001 effort, The Green Album.
Interestingly, now 20 years later, Osbourne has a writing credit on Weezer's newest album, Van Weezer. The track "Blue Dream" features a riff pretty much identical to Ozzy's classic solo tune "Crazy Train," so Weezer credited him, guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Bob Daisley as co-writers.
"They get half the song, or something like that," Cuomo explains. "It's kind of like a sample, really, but we played it."
Van Weezer is out now. Weezer will hit the road with Green Day and Fall Out Boy on the Hella Mega tour, kicking off in July.
