Gucci Mane is urging people in his hometown of Atlanta to vote as he headlines the free Votelanta Music Festival on Friday.
The event, which takes place 6 p.m. ET at Dome in the City, celebrates National Vote Early Day. In addition to the "Wake Up in the Sky" rapper, students from Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark University and Georgia State University will also perform. Each college participant will have the opportunity to win an exclusive recording session with a major music label.
“Voting is a fundamental right that everyone should be proud to exercise,” Julius Thomas, CEO of The People’s Uprising non-partisan voter registration organization, said in a statement. “It’s imperative that we urge our future generation of leaders to take part in one of the most powerful tools in democracy. With the help of our incredible partners, we are able to continue our Votelanta tradition of creatively and innovatively mobilizing young people to vote with an A-T-L twist.”
The state of Georgia has two high-profile elections taking place on November 8. Republican governor Brian Kemp has a rematch against Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams, and Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock faces a challenge from Republican candidate and former NFL star Herschel Walker.
