It has, indeed, been awhile since Staind released Break the Cycle.
The band's breakout third album was released May 8, 2001, 20 years this Saturday. Arriving during the height of the nu metal era, Break the Cycle debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. It's since been certified five-times Platinum by the RIAA, and is Staind's best-selling album.
Break the Cycle produced several hit singles, including "Outside," "For You," "Fade" and "Epiphany." Though the biggest song from the record was, of course, "It's Been Awhile," which gave Staind their first-and-only top-five hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
The "It's Been Awhile" video, which was directed by Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, now has over 150 million views on YouTube.
Following Break the Cycle, Staind has released four more studio albums, the most recent of which being 2011's self-titled effort. They announced a hiatus in 2012, and frontman Aaron Lewis launched a solo career as a country artist.
After one-off reunion shows in 2014 and 2017, Staind announced that they were returning in 2019 for a tour. They also planned to hit the road with Disturbed in 2020, though that tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
