King Von’s estate today released the Chicago rapper’s new posthumous album, What It Means to Be King. The 19-track project features tracks from artists like G Herbo, 21 Savage, Moneybagg Yo and more.
The late 26-year-old rapper, born Dayvon Daquan Bennett, lost his life to gun violence back in November of 2020, only a month after dropping his first studio album, Welcome to O’Block.
What It Means to Be King drops by way of record label Only the Family (OTF), which is the brainchild of fellow Chicago-born rapper Lil Durk. Though Von and Durk aren’t biologically related, they often referred to each other as family, with Von taking on the title “Grandson.”
“You can’t talk ‘bout Von around me wherever I go ‘cause that’s my twin, n****,” raps Durk, who jumped on the track “Evil Twin.”
Friday’s release was long awaited by fans and celebrities. One fan tweeted, “Man, I wish King Von was still alive to still make bangers like this album that dropped RIP Legend.”
Lil Durk posted a picture of the album cover on his Instagram, with the caption, “You just saved the streets the industry dryyyyyyyyyy let’s go twinnnnnn #gooooo.”
Other notable features on the album include Fivio Foreign, Dreezy and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.
