Throughout Rage Against the Machine's U.S. reunion tour, the band has been raising money for a variety of different charities and organizations through ticket sales. Following the group's five-night stand at New York City's Madison Square Garden, those fundraising efforts hit a significant milestone.
According to a tweet from the "Killing in the Name" rockers, charity tickets purchased over the five MSG shows raised a total of $1 million. The money will be donated to the Immigrant Defense Project, as well as the local NYC charities Neighbors Together and The Campaign Against Hunger.
The MSG concerts marked the final dates on Rage's 2022 U.S. leg, which mark the band's first live shows since 2011. The outing had originally been scheduled for 2020, but was delayed to this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rage was set to follow the U.S. run with a trip to the U.K. and Europe, but those dates were canceled due to frontman Zack de la Rocha suffering an injury during a July show in Chicago, which forced him to perform while seated for the rest of the tour. Now that the MSG shows are done, de la Rocha is set to "return home for rest and rehabilitation."
