Pantera has been dropped from the upcoming Rock am Ring and Rock im Park music festivals, set to take place in Germany in June.

Statements posted to both festivals' Facebook pages read, "Pantera will not be performing at Rock am Ring and Rock in the Park 2023, as announced."

The statement continues, "In the last few weeks, we have had many intensive conversations with artists, our partners and you, the festival fans, we have continued to deal with the criticism together and decided to remove the band from the program."

According to German news site DW.com, said criticism stems from when Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo yelled "white power" while giving the Nazi salute during a performance at the 2016 Dimebash concert, held in honor of late guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.

At the time, the incident drew condemnation from metal fans and artists alike, including Anthrax's Scott Ian, who called Anselmo's actions vile. Anselmo's band Down was also dropped from several European festivals that year.

In one of two public apologies Anselmo made, he said he was "1000 percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said."

Pantera reformed at the end of 2022 with longtime members Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown joined by Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde and Anthrax's Charlie Benante in place of Dime and his late brother Vinnie Paul, respectively. The group is set to tour the U.S. this summer alongside Lamb of God, in between opening for Metallica.
