311 just played the last show on their summer and fall tour over the weekend, but it may not be too long until you hear from them again.

As frontman Nick Hexum told ABC Audio ahead of the tour, he's been on a "creative kick."

"I'm making some cool demos on my own," he said.

311's tour marked the band's first full live outing since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Amid quarantine, Hexum started an at-home covers series, which helped foster a creative environment.

"I'm in the studio, everything's working, so then when I have an idea for a song, it's just right there, I'm already in the flow," Hexum explained. "I have, like, four brand-new demos that I'm super excited about."

As for when we'll get to hear any new stuff, Hexum said he's "not gonna make any predictions."

"But for me...ideas are always coming and I'm always putting them down," he said.

Whenever new music does arrive, it'll follow 311's 2019 album, Voyager. That record included a few more experimental moments, such as the "hippy jam" "What The?!" Hexum teased that future material may continue to follow that path.

"I think it's just really important to keep exploring and keep finding new musical frontiers to cross," he said.

311 will return to the road briefly later this month for a trio of Colorado shows over Halloween weekend. Next year, they'll head to Las Vegas for the 2022 311 Day celebration.
