The rap industry lost another great. Shock G, who served as the lead vocalist of hip hop group Digital Underground, has died at age 57.
TMZ reports that the rapper, real name Gregory Jacobs, was found in his Tampa hotel room on Thursday. His father, Edward Racker, spoke to the outlet regarding his son's death and claims authorities found no proof of foul play.
The cause of death, however, remains unclear and an investigation is ongoing. Shock's father also says an autopsy will be performed.
Tommy Boy Entertainment, who repped Digital Underground, released a statement regarding the tragic passing.
"Shock G was the greatest genius I have had the pleasure of working with. his unbridled creativity knew no bounds. The vision, the music, the lyrics, the art. He would not be limited by music institutions," founder Tom Silverman said. "Shock G, the world is poorer without you."
Digital Underground's Chopmaster J also paid tribute to Shock G on Instagram.
Beyond gaining acclaim for his work on Digital Underground, Shock -- who also went by the alter ego Humpty Hump -- also made a name for himself when working alongside Tupac Shakur.
Shock not only launched Digital Underground into fame with their 1990 hit "The Humpty Dance," which went to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, he also loaned his vocals to Pac's "I Get Around" and co-produced the late rapper's debut album 2Pacalypse Now.
Shock also famously collaborated with and produced music for Prince, KRS-One and Dr. Dre.
He was pre-deceased by Underground group member Kenny-K. The last surviving original member is Chopmaster J.
